To hard reset the Samsung Galaxy J1 follow the below steps (the reset will also clear a lost or forgotten screen lock like pattern, pin or password).

1. Press and hold the Power + Vol Up + Home
2. Release when you see the Android robot image menu
3. Short press the power the Power key to display the recovery menu
4. Scroll down with Vol- to 'Wipe data/factory reset'
5. Short press Power
6. Scroll down with Vol- to 'Yes---delete all user data'
7. Short press Power
8. Short press Power when the wiping is completed.
